Bed Size Malaysia: Single, Super Single, Queen, King and California Size Guide (2026)

Shopping for a new bed and not sure which size to choose? Here's the quick answer: in Malaysia, a Single bed is 90 x 190 cm (3ft), a Super Single is 107 x 190 cm (3.5ft), a Queen is 152 x 190 cm (5ft) and a King is 183 x 190 cm (6ft). For extra room, there's the Super King at 200 x 200 cm, plus the longer California Queen (150 x 200 cm) and California King (180 x 200 cm).

In this guide, we break down every bed size in Malaysia, how much room each one needs, how local sizes compare with UK and US sizes, and how to pick the right bed for the way you sleep.

Bed Sizes in Malaysia Explained

Single Bed Size

The Single bed is the smallest standard size in Malaysia, measuring 90 x 190 cm (3ft x 6.2ft). It's a smart choice for kids' rooms, guest rooms and compact spaces where every centimetre counts.

  • Dimensions: 90 x 190 cm (3ft x 6.2ft)
  • Best for: children, single sleepers, guest rooms and bunk beds
  • Room size: from about 2.1 m x 2.5 m

Super Single Bed Size

A Super Single measures 107 x 190 cm (3.5ft x 6.2ft), giving you 17 cm more width than a Single. It's one of the most popular sizes in Malaysia for teens and single adults who like room to turn over, and it still fits comfortably in a smaller bedroom.

  • Dimensions: 107 x 190 cm (3.5ft x 6.2ft)
  • Best for: teens, single adults and growing kids
  • Room size: from about 2.3 m x 2.5 m

Queen Size Bed Dimensions

The Queen is the go-to size for couples in Malaysia. At 152 x 190 cm (5ft x 6.2ft), it gives two people enough space to sleep comfortably and fits most master bedrooms in condos and landed homes.

  • Dimensions: 152 x 190 cm (5ft x 6.2ft)
  • Best for: couples, single sleepers who love space
  • Room size: from about 2.7 m x 2.5 m

King Size Bed Dimensions

A King size bed measures 183 x 190 cm (6ft x 6.2ft), 31 cm wider than a Queen. It's ideal if you share your bed with a partner, little ones or a pet, or simply want more space to stretch out.

  • Dimensions: 183 x 190 cm (6ft x 6.2ft)
  • Best for: couples who want space, co-sleeping families, pet owners
  • Room size: from about 3.0 m x 2.5 m

Super King Size Bed

The Super King is the largest standard size you'll find in Malaysia, at 200 x 200 cm (6.6ft x 6.6ft). It's less common and needs a spacious master bedroom, but it's a dream for families who co-sleep.

  • Dimensions: 200 x 200 cm (6.6ft x 6.6ft)
  • Best for: large master bedrooms, co-sleeping families
  • Room size: from about 3.2 m x 2.6 m

California Queen and California King Bed Sizes

California sizes are 10 cm longer than standard sizes, which makes them perfect for tall sleepers. A California Queen measures 150 x 200 cm (5ft x 6.6ft) and a California King measures 180 x 200 cm (6ft x 6.6ft). Remember that you'll need a California size mattress and fitted sheets to match. Learn more in our California size mattress guide.

  • Dimensions: California Queen: 150 x 200 cm (5ft x 6.6ft) | California King: 180 x 200 cm (6ft x 6.6ft)
  • Best for: sleepers around 180 cm or taller, anyone who wants extra legroom

Mattress Size vs Bed Frame Size: What's the Difference?

The sizes above refer to the mattress. A bed frame is always a little bigger than the mattress it holds, and a thick headboard, upholstered sides or built-in storage can add several centimetres or more. Before you buy, check the bed frame's overall dimensions on the product page, not just the mattress size, so you know exactly how much floor space it needs.

  • Your mattress and bed frame should always be the same size (for example, a Queen mattress on a Queen bed frame).
  • Measure doorways, staircases and lifts, especially for larger frames and storage beds.
  • Leave space for bedside tables, wardrobe doors and drawers to open fully.

What Size Bed Fits My Room?

As a rule of thumb, leave about 60 cm of walking space on both sides of the bed and at the foot. Here's the minimum room size we recommend for each bed (before adding wardrobes or bedside tables):

Bed Size Minimum Room Size (approx.) Floor Area
Single 2.1 m x 2.5 m about 55 sq ft
Super Single 2.3 m x 2.5 m about 60 sq ft
Queen 2.7 m x 2.5 m about 75 sq ft
King 3.0 m x 2.5 m about 80 sq ft
Super King 3.2 m x 2.6 m about 90 sq ft
California Queen 2.7 m x 2.6 m about 75 sq ft
California King 3.0 m x 2.6 m about 85 sq ft

Tip: use masking tape to mark the bed's outline on your floor. It's the easiest way to see how a new bed will really feel in your room.

Malaysian vs International Bed Sizes (UK and US)

Bed sizes aren't the same around the world, which can get confusing if you're buying bedding online or moving from overseas. There's also no standard 'Double' bed in Malaysia. The closest local size is a Queen. Here's how UK and US sizes compare:

Region Size Name Dimensions (cm)
UK Single 90 x 190
UK Small Double 120 x 190
UK Double 135 x 190
UK King 150 x 200
UK Super King 180 x 200
US Twin 97 x 191
US Twin XL 97 x 203
US Full / Double 137 x 191
US Queen 152 x 203
US King 193 x 203
US California King 183 x 213
US Alaskan King 274 x 274

Good to know: a UK King (150 x 200 cm) is the same size as a Malaysian California Queen, and a UK Super King (180 x 200 cm) matches a Malaysian California King.

How to Choose the Right Bed Size

  • Who's sleeping: one person can sleep well on a Single or Super Single, while couples should start at Queen.
  • Your height: if you're around 180 cm or taller, consider a California size for extra legroom.
  • Your room: measure first and leave about 60 cm of walking space around the bed.
  • Pets and kids: if they often join you in bed, size up to a King or Super King.
  • Future plans: buying for a growing child? A Super Single lasts from primary school to university.
  • Bedding: bigger and less common sizes may need specific sheets, so check availability before you buy.
